The Do List

Harpoon Championship of New England Barbecue - The Harpoon Brewery in Windsor, Vermont, hosts the event July 22 and 23. Forty barbecue teams will compete for prizes. Besides great chow, there is fresh beer, live music and brewery tours.

The Jay Challenge - Held in Jay, Vermont, from July 28 to 30, the Challenge is considered by many to be one of the hardest multi-sport, off-road staged races in the world. It is a three-day event, with each day focusing on a different discipline: trail running, mountain biking and paddling.

Mount Washington Hillclimb - On August 19 in Gorham, New Hampshire, cyclists will race 7.6 miles up the Northeast's highest peak. The mountain's track record for horrendous weather — the highest sustained winds ever recorded — and sheer elevation gain (4,727 feet in 7.6 miles) make it the toughest bike hill climb in North America.
