No Bib Jib Series
- Begins December 9 - This Sunday River event is all about freedom.
You have the freedom to pick your team of four, the freedom to
pick your theme, the freedom to session the course however you
please, and the freedom to post photos, video and general
tomfoolery about your team or your competitors. You will not be
required to wear a bib. You will not have to stand around
waiting for your one or two chances. You’ll hit the course with
your friends and session the elements just like you would any
other day. There are four No Bib Jib Series dates, once per
month starting in December. To qualify for the season crown a
team will need to compete in three out of the four events. Since
there’s no bibs required, being in uniform is key to let the
judges give you the credit you deserve. Some of last year’s best
duds were hockey jerseys, tyvec suits, matching bandanas, joey
gear, rugby shirts, flannel, standard issue prison uniforms, you
name it. Team registration is $100 for the season series. Broken
down that’s only about $6 per person per event.
Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge – One of the
coolest tours over the last few years rips through the Northeast
again. The Dew is a free, fun race series open to all ages and
abilities. Beginning at Okemo Mountain on December 8, the series
will make a stop at almost every major resort in New England
before the East Finals at Loon on March 29.
2008 US Alpine
Championships at Sugarloaf – The nation’s best alpine
skiers will do battle in Carrabasett Valley when Sugarloaf hosts
the U.S. Alpine Championships March 22 to 26.
U.S.
Snowboarding Grand Prix at Killington - Some of the best
snowboarders on the planet will battle it out at Killington
Resort March 15 and 16 in the third and final installment of this winter’s Grand
Prix. The event will be televised on NBC Sports and Versus, and
boarders will compete for $300K in prizes, not to mention some
serious bragging rights.
Mount Snow
Freeski Open – March 22 and 23 - The biggest
freeski-only event to roll into Mount Snow ever. This event will
be the only East Coast stop of the Freeski Opens Tour, (other
stops include Breckenridge, Colorado, and Big Bear, California).
Huge cash purse featuring a night halfpipe competition in the
Gut Superpipe on Saturday and a slopestyle event in the
VERMONTSTER on Sunday.
Attitash Spread
Eagle World Championships – March 15 - Get in the
groove at the Attitash Spread Eagle World Championship, followed
by live outdoor 1970s entertainment on the outside snowstage.
Air out your one-piece day glow suit as you huck off a big air
jump, executing the old school trick of your choice - Daffys,
Spread Eagle, Backscratcher. The retro weekend is not just for
ski jumpers but anyone who is nostalgic for the 70’s. Arrive in
your best 70’s attire (including fro) and participate in the
Best Retro Outfit contest. Winner takes home a peace ring and a
special Atti-fro.
