Call To The Hall
Vermont’s Jake and Donna Burton Carpenter become the first
snowboarders selected to the Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.
Considering they
started their business in a Vermont barn 30 years ago, snowboard
pioneers Jake and Donna Burton Carpenter are no doubt pretty sure
they’ve made it when they’re opening a new mega-store in Osaka, Japan,
or reflecting on how they control roughly 50 percent of the snowboard
industry. But, if their monstrous business success doesn’t make it
official, maybe being named a hall-of-famer does.
Jake and Donna Burton Carpenter —
the owners of Burton Snowboards, the
world’s leading snowboard manufacturer
—
recently became the first snowboarders inducted into what is now known
as the U.S. National Ski and Snowboard
Hall of Fame. They are the first people to be inducted into the Hall
as a couple, and were selected in recognition of their vision and
business savvy that helped turn snowboarding from a fringe hobby into a
mainstream sport now seen at resorts around the globe.
The Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame and Museum is located in Ishpirning,
Michigan, and houses one of the largest collections of ski and snowsport
memorabilia in the United States.
