New Englanders represent on the 2008 U.S. Snowboarding roster; Vermont's Eric Warren calls it a career.

New Englanders will be well-represented on the 2008 U.S. Snowboarding Team. U.S. Snowboarding yesterday named its roster, and among the 41 riders listed are 11 locals, including such snowboarding titans as Hannah Teter (Belmont, VT), Scotty Lago (Seabrook, NH), Lindsey Jacobellis (Stratton Mountain, VT), and Seth Wescott (Carrabassett Valley, ME).

Joining Jacobellis as a double-threat in both the halfpipe and snowboardcross is rising star Brooke Shaw (Litchfield, CT). The 16-year-old Shaw is the Junior World Championships bronze medalist in snowboardcross.

Lago’s naming comes on the heals of him lighting up the competition in New Zealand last week. On Sunday, he placed second at the New Zealand Open halfpipe while scoring the Best Trick award for a backside corked 900. He also earned the quarterpipe title and the quarterpipe best trick award. His success brought him an overall payday of $7,000. Not a bad day’s work.

The World Cup competition season opens at the end of this month in New Zealand. The only World Cup stop in the U.S. will be the U.S. Snowboarding Cup March 1-3 in Lake Placid, New York. Domestically, the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix will make a stop in Killington, Vermont, this winter.

In other news, Eric Warren (Bennington, VT) is retiring from U.S. Snowboarding. Warren has ridden with U.S. Snowboarding’s alpine team since 2000. But he says juggling school and riding has become too much. And he has decided to pursue a career in architectural engineering from Vermont Technical College.
