The Anti-Gravity Grail, Mount Snow's
largest annual freestyle event, will host hundreds of competitors and
thousands of spectators this February 29 - March 2. The viewer-friendly
series kicks off with a rail jam on Friday, continues with a big air
competition on Saturday and concludes with a superpipe competition on
Sunday.
Registration is now
open for competitors. Amateur skiers and riders will compete for prizes
from sponsors, while pros have a shot at a piece of a $10,000 cash
purse.
On February 29, the
JBL Rail Jam will be held under the lights at the Jiblet terrain park
near the Main Base area. Competitors will have a choice between two
rails, each custom-made by Mount Snow's master terrain park designer,
Ken Gaitor.
The Head Mega Mother
Hucker big air competition, located just a few hundred feet from the
Main Base Lodge, spans the entire day on March 1. High-flying skiers and
riders will practice on the 50-foot jump in the morning, then compete in
the qualifying round in the afternoon to decide who will have a chance
at $3,000 in cash and prizes. For an added spectacle, competitors will
be jumping over Livintrust, a high energy rock band playing live under
the jump.
The Anti-Gravity
Grail culminates with the Sobe Superpipe Competition in The Gut
Superpipe on March 2. This world-class, 450-foot long halfpipe features
18-foot walls and a clear view from the deck at the Carinthia base
lodge. Competitors will be judged on two separate runs, again vying for
a piece of thousands in cash and prizes.
Mount Snow Events
Coordinator Greg Fisher predicts that anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000
spectators will be watching the Mega Mother Hucker alone. "When you
combine the under-the-lights atmosphere with a live band, fireworks and
some of the best freestyle competitors in the region, you know it's
going to be awesome," said Fisher. Past competitors in the Anti-Gravity
Grail have included big-name skiers like Simon Dumont, Ahmete Dadhli and
Colby West.
All three events are
free of charge for spectators.
